Sailor

Sailor

I steered my boat to weather.
Took a reef in her sail.
Made the main sheet fast,
Then I felt the blast
As a mighty wave broke over the rail.

And I wished that I was not a sailor,
Destined to die out on the sea.
I cursed them cold hungry waters,
And the old devil ocean swallowed me.

I saw my life pass before my fading eyes,
Taking me back in space and time.
Drifting through a sea of pure tranquility,
My mother was a friend of mine.

I saw the birth of new stars in cosmic skies,
Shining their promises on me.
I shall be reborn upon some future morn,
To sail upon a tranquil sea.

I steered my boat to weather.
Took a reef in her sail.
Made the main sheet fast,
Then I felt the blast
As a mighty wave broke over the rail.

And I wished that I was not a sailor,
Destined to die out on the sea.
I cursed them cold hungry waters,
And the old devil ocean swallowed me.
