Getting help

More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump.

Goodies, tips, and tricks

Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your graphic abilities.
You can find the files you have uploaded in your Uploads.
Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~.
To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg.
You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account.
There are several tools to upload files.
Have you edited Wikipedia before? This guide might be useful.

Made a mistake?

Do you want to have a file renamed or moved? Use the move link and wait for an authorized user to rename it.
Do you want to have your recently uploaded picture removed? Tag it as {{speedy|reason here}}. For more information read the deletion guidelines.

Ahoj, prosím rovněž dej na smazání kategorie Category:Elementary schools in Brno District a Category:Brno District. Bylo by vhodné netvořit nové kategorie s chybnými názvy, ale nejdříve se podívat, zda-li taková kategorie již neexistuje, což se vzhledem k velikosti Brna dá očekávat. Rovněž jsem ještě našel Category:Brno-venkov District, též na smazání. Prosím, dvakrát měř, jednou řež, děláš v kategorizaci poměrně binec. --Harold (talk) 10:41, 19 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Zdravím, omlouvám se a děkuji za dohled a opravy. Nevymýšlel jsem to z ničeho, ale asi jsem zle soudil z hierarchie Category:Elementary schools in South Bohemian Region > Category:Elementary schools in Písek District. Popel na mou hlavu za to Category:Brno-venkov, neuměl jsem rozlíšit, kde již končí lokální názvosloví (venkov) a kde se to překládá (country). --Muselsom (talk) 11:18, 19 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

In addition, I noticed that you've made a malformed deletion request. Here, {{Del}} is not for speedy deletion, please see COM:DP. @Jeff G.: thank you for a so much info. I was creator the wrong Category, it is not suffix but already prefix . It suits by my opinion, because in video is my propagation of this WM foundation.

Please could you help me -- in this way - I am preparing sk:Wikipédia:Wikiprojekt Žilina about more Priest's speeches from region, from Slovakia, but puts internationally, on so short Dioceses articles. Hi friend, you are right, the Jesus depicted on the left is copyrighted. Please let me know if there are any criteria that could save the right side with the parish seal touch, as it is encyclopedically significant. V podmínkách užití, na které odkazuješ, je doslova uvedeno, že pod CC-BY jsou pouze ty fotky, u kterých je to výslovně zmíněno (https://www.em.muni.cz/udalosti/11574-dekan-zlatuska-rezignoval-zaroven-se-uchazi-o-novy-mandat a https://www.em.muni.cz/komentare/12158-mikulas-bek-zmena-je-zivot). Hi Muselsom. I noticed that a deletion request you made was not done correctly.

This is not the first time you've made this mistake; when you get this wrong, it creates a fair amount of work for other people to clean it up. Please do try to get this right in the future.

There are several steps to making a deletion request (DR) correctly; among other things you must transclude the deletion into the correct daily DR list, and to notify the page creator and optionally other human (non-bot) editors of the page. By far the easiest way to do all of this correctly is to use the automatic Nominate for deletion or Nominate category for discussion tool in the Tools menu on the sidebar per COM:DR#Starting requests and COM:CFD#Starting requests, which takes care of all that using vetted Javascript. If you prefer to add the {{Delete}} template or {{Category for discussion}} template manually, you are required to follow the instructions in the template, including the "Click here to show further instructions" portion (or Commons:Deletion requests/Listing a request manually policy or the "By hand" portion of COM:CFD#Starting requests, normally collapsed). Again, though, there is no need to follow complex instructions if you use the automatic tools.

Also worth knowing: on Commons, {{Delete}} is not a "speedy delete" request like it is on many other projects; instead, it starts a discussion of whether the file should be deleted. If you think a particular media file really obviously does not belong on Commons, see the instructions at Commons:Criteria for speedy deletion. Common cases that are better handled with a speedy delete than a DR include:

own work within 7 days (COM:CSD#G7)
empty category never likely to be used (COM:CSD#C2).

Common bad reasons people have for making DRs in the first place include:

after renaming a category, trying to delete the resulting redirect in violation of policy COM:CATRED
making a DR for a file where there is already a current DR
trying to delete one's own work within 7 days (use {{G7}} instead)
placing {{Delete}} on the deletion subpage itself, or on a talk page.

Also, please don't use {{Ffd}} (that's an English Wikipedia thing).
