Ayurvedic head massage or Shiroabhyanga is one of the oldest health-giving therapies in India, practiced for more than 5000 years. It involves circular massage strokes on the head, shoulders, and neck. Ayurvedic head massage is a high-class therapeutic wand with immense healing and relaxation capabilities. The very fact that you feel good to yourself with various benefits derive from this Ayurvedic treatment leaves both your body and spirit cleansed anew. More so, it wakes up the very forces of healing within your body. While nothing can compare to a therapeutic massage from a trained Ayurvedic practitioner, the self-massage on your head and scalp also can be an integral and powerful part of your regular dinacharya.

What Are Marmas Or Pressure Points?

As per Ayurveda, your body contains 107 vital points called ‘Marmas’ in which 31 marmas are present in head region. These marmas are pressure points where the arteries, veins, and cranial nerves intersect.

In ayurvedic head massage these vital points are stimulated. As head is the seat of many important marma points which control the flow of prana (vital energy) throughout the body, Ayurvedic head massage is a very effective natural therapy to induce healing and relaxation.
