Files erroneously(?) changed to CC BY-SA after verification

Hello,

I worked with two photographers to get their photos uploaded here on Wikimedia with a CC BY 4.0 license. After uploading the files and directing them to email the VRT with the CC BY 4.0 template provided by the release generator tool, however, I noticed that the licenses were changed to CC BY-SA alongside the file page edits which added the verification checkmark and ticket number.

I thought maybe it was possible that perhaps the photographers changed their mind and communicated in their email chain to the VRT to have it with a SA provision instead, but I reached back out to one of them, and they tell me that they didn't request anything like that and simply sent the CC BY release.

Can someone look into why the licenses were changed to be CC BY-SA, and if it was done in error, to change them to CC BY 4.0?

JFYI, the -SA thing is a bit more restrictive that only having CC-By, as it mandates that any posterior usage of the imagery is also to be done under CC-By-SA. It shows for, at least, a somewhat perpetuated advertising namedropping for the benefit of these photographers, so from the viewpoint of creators, the CC-By-SA combination (which is the most restrictive allowed on Commons) is often better than only CC-By. Of course, if the creators morally want more freedom for their works, they are totally free to imperatively request the switch to CC-By, otherwise, their may benefit more from keeping the -SA. Right, the additional restrictions that CC BY-SA have is why I am concerned by the erroneous(?) application of that license here.

Of course, if the photographers decided they want those restrictions in place, then so be it, but from my conversation with one of them, they never asked for the SA provision to be added, so I think that this might just be a mistake by the VRT?

Thanks you for resolving it on the Macuahuitl file, but the two files I linked of the Obsidian scraper are still CC BY-SA. Can those be corrected as well, or was there a specific reason those are still marked as SA?

I received notification for a image that has been flagged as missing verification of permission. The copyright holder has informed me that permission was already sent to Wikimedia and that confirmation was received by the Volunteer Response Team. I was shown the following details, which I’m sharing here for reference:

Hulp bij verwijderen foto zonder goedkeuring minderjarige kinderen

Beste,

Al geruime tijd ben ik bezig met het verwijderen van een foto die van mij is genomen en op een wikipedia pagina is geplaatst. Een foto in prive tijd is genomen en geupload, waarop ik met 2 minderjarige kinderen/fans sta (minderjarige kinderen zijn zowel bij mij als uploader onbekend en foto is tijdens een vakantiemoment genomen). Er is geen toestemming van ouders geweest, maar deze foto staat wel al jaren op de pagina, waarbij de minderjarige kinderen herkenbaar in beeld staan zonder toestemming.

Op 28 dec 2025 heb ik een respons op ticket:2025122610003469 gekregen, waarop een medewerker van contactcenter aangaf een verzoek tot verwijdering in te dienen vanwege bovengenoemde redenen. Ik heb op 2 jan 2026 een verzoek tot verwijdering ingediend, maar verzoek lijkt niet in behandeling te zijn genomen. Iemand heeft op de verwijderoverleg pagina aangegeven dat ik dit wellicht aan jullie moet melden, vandaar dit bericht.

Het gaat om https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Revy_rosalia_met_twee_fans-1469960401.jpg. Ik heb meerdere keren een andere foto willen uploaden, maar die wordt om verschillende redenen tegen gehouden door de beheerder van de wikipedia pagina. https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Revy_Rosalia. Ik heb ook meerdere keren een foutief verzoek tot verwijdering ingediend met een blokkade door de beheerder van deze pagina als gevolg. Ik verwijs graag naar de boodschap van het contactcenter in eerder genoemd ticket, waarin een valide reden wordt genoemd om verzoek tot verwijdering in te dienen.

Hoor grag wat ik nog meer kan doen of moet afwachten met betrekking tot het verwijderverzoek van 02 jan 2026, omdat ik nu best wanhopig ben.

File:Michael-Schumacher 1950-2025.jpg - have I missed anything?

Hello VRT team, I was the AFC reviewer for English Wikipedia's article for Michael Schumacher, American author, who died a few weeks ago. I also translated the article into French Wikipedia, and want to translate into Spanish once the photo is available. In liaison with his daughter and a family friend I uploaded File:Michael-Schumacher 1950-2025.jpg - and then got the subject's daughter to fill in the Commons Creative webform, this was 2 weeks ago. The ticket number is:

Can I just check whether I have missed something, given the ticket is still pending? Apologies for hassling, the article is relatively new in both languages (there is also a German version) so I am keen to get a photo in while it is still fresh. Though I've been through CC before on Commons, last time it was pretty slick so I'm concerned that maybe I've missed some flag or setting. @Nthep - I have heard back from the daughter (who took and owns the photo). She has checked, including her spam box and says that she can't find any email around this period. Can you please re-send the email to E., the address was a gmail with the local-part ending 33. Alternatively it can be sent to my email address. Apologies for this but without sight of that email we are stuck. If necessary I can reload the photo again and restart the process all over, but I am hoping to avoid that.
